Hi Guys, we would be interested in hearing about what you guys get up to across the water. Because of the Laws ect in this country we are very restricted as to what we can do, and what we can do it with so there will be differences in styles, guns, rigs and so forth, but we are still eager to hear from you.

Cheers Guys

Howdy Rosie,

I look forward to the opportunity for us to exchange information.  I am working on a project to document the history of Fast Draw both in print and on film and I am fascinated to see how far across the world the sport has spread.  I am curious as to who you consider are the founding fathers and mothers of Fast Draw in Scotland, who/what influenced them to bring Fast Draw here and how long the sport has been practiced in your part of the world.  Besides bringing LLedslinger over here I imagine my other collaborator Ol' Possum will show up soon.  Right now I've got him busy working on video for a shoot I am organizing next weekend in Arizona for a famous Colt gunsmith JIm Martin.  We are also working on a HUGE contest in October, The California State Fast Draw Championship.  You can see some small examples of our filmwork on Ol' Possum's website http://www.smd-productions.com

If you have any direct questions feel free to ask as I will do the same.  Please feel free to visit my website which I will be updating to a new format to make it easier to search as soon as time permits.  I also encourage you to visit LLedslinger's website http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/16056 and participate in his show.  We are a small but enthusiastic group of Fast Draw shooters that are trying to tell the complete story of Fast Draw.  I started a post on the Alamo Fast Draw blogspot - http://www.alamofastdraw.blogspot.com - about your websites here and hope we can get our community interested in what you are doing.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.  I look foward visiting you someday.

Take Care,
Papa G

Hi Papa G,
I'm sure there are plenty folks out there that will be able to help regarding the history of Fast Draw in Scotland, it may come down to the history of individual organisations which I hope would be of interest to you.
Sadly one of the main figures of Fast Draw in Scotland, Cheyenne Bodie, passed away last year, although maybe not a founding Father, he certainly done everything he could to promote the hobby and encourage others to try it. I'm sure if he was here today though he would have loved to have helped out.
We will do some research and find out as much as possible and try and make up small reports on each organisation if that would help you out. If your really licky there may be some old pictures of some of our Gunfighters that we can post as well.

Cheers

Rosie,

Thank you very much for your consideration and willingness to share the story of Fast Draw in Scotland.

The founding fathers and significant contributors to the creation and growth of the sport in the US and Canada are passing without leaving any record of their story or accomplishments.  My website was created in 2004 in an attempt to capture what little information was shared with me at the time.  The interest has grown into a project as shooters found me through the Gulch and started providing me with more stories, memorabilia, pictures and film.  Your possible contributions would be invaluable in helping the world see the big picture.

Possum, LLedslinger and I are amongst a group of shooters who feel documenting the history is as important as competing in the sport.  We appreciate any help you can give us.

Take Care,
Papa G

Since you asked about Fast Draw here in the US here's a link to a video Possum and I created for a shoot that GunFighter Gulch is organizing in Kingman, Arizona this weekend May 3 and 4, 2008.  We hope you enjoy it.

LLedslinger will be on hosting the Alamo Fast Draw show on Sunday and some of us who attended the shoot will be the guests.

Here is the link:

You can also download the show on iTunes.
